Share Your Story!
You can help create more visibility for real-life non-monogamous families, relationships, and individuals; promote acceptance; and showcase the diversity and richness of our global community!
Why share your story?
By sharing your non-monogamy story and/or photo, you’ll be helping to humanize and normalize non-monogamous relationships, break down stereotypes and foster a more inclusive understanding of love and family. Your contributions will be featured on social media as part of the Week of Visibility for Non-monogamy, promoting acceptance and helping other non-monogamous people know that they’re not alone!
What to share?
We invite you to share a story that highlights your experience with non-monogamy, and a photo of you and your partner(s) and/or family. Please make sure that you have the explicit consent of everyone in the photo; see "Privacy and Permissions" below!
To help get you started, here are a few prompts for inspiration, though you are welcome to share any story that is meaningful to you. Please keep your submission to under 150 words.
Moments of joy in your non-monogamous relationships
Experiences of compersion or challenges with compersion
Struggles with practicing non-monogamy or being open about it
How intersecting identities (such as being LGBTQ+, racialized, or an immigrant) have influenced your non-monogamous journey
Privacy and Permissions
Your contact information will be kept private and will not be shared publicly. We will only use your email to contact you if we have questions about your submission.
If you choose to include a photo, please note that it will be uploaded to our social media platforms, and your anonymity cannot be ensured if the photo is of you. Only submit photos of yourself or those for which you have explicit permission to share.
We reserve the right to edit stories for brevity, clarity, and flow, and while we strive to share as many stories as possible, we cannot guarantee publication of every submission.
Tips for Taking Good Photos
Lighting: Natural light is your best friend. Try to take photos in a well-lit area, preferably during the day, with the light source in front of you rather than behind.
Background: Choose a clean and uncluttered background to ensure the focus remains on you and your story.
Composition: Frame the photo so that you are centered and clearly visible. Use the rule of thirds to make your photo more dynamic.
Expression: Be yourself! Show your personality through your expression and pose. Authenticity shines through and makes your story more relatable.
Permissions: Make sure everyone in the photo agrees with it being shared publicly!
Use this form to submit your story and/or photo. You will need to be signed into Google to access this form.
Alternatively, you can email your photo and story to weekofvisibility@open-love.org. When you do please be sure to include your name and location, which we’ll use to attribute the story (you don’t need to provide your full name and exact city; you can use just your first name or first initial, and just your state or country). Please also include the names (or initials or whatever) of the people in the photo for the caption!
